DESPERATE SOLUTIONS

Synopsis: Lockdown is a short film that captures the emotional and psychological impact of isolation during a global pandemic. Through the lens of a solitary protagonist, the film looks into themes of loneliness, routine, and the human need for connection in times of isolation.

The editing employs a minimalist approach, utilising long takes and deliberate pacing to mirror the monotony and stillness of lockdown life. Subtle transitions and ambient sound design enhance the sense of isolation, while occasional jump cuts reflect the disorientation and time distortion experienced during prolonged confinement. These choices were made to immerse the viewer in the protagonist's internal world, inflicting the emotional weight of solitude and the yearning for normalcy.

CONSCRIPTION

Synopsis: Conscription is a short film which immerses the viewer into the psychological and emotional challenges faced by individuals during mandatory military service. Through its narrative, the film explores themes of identity, duty, and the personal cost of conscription.

The film employs a deliberate pacing with measured cuts to reflect the monotonous and regimented nature of military life. Transitions are used sparingly, enhancing the stark realities faced by the protagonist. The editing choices aim to immerse the viewer in the protagonist's internal struggle, highlighting the tension between personal desires and imposed obligations. This film was showcased at KINO Shorts 76 Film Festival.

THE GAME

Making the music video for The Game was a rewarding experience that involved close collaboration and careful planning. I focused on aligning the visuals with the song’s energy, using thoughtful shot choices and precise editing to enhance the mood. The final video reflects the combined effort and creativity of the whole team.

Voodoo Love

Voodoo Love is a surreal, stylised music video that explores the intensity of a romantic connection through bold visuals and a moody soundscape. It portrays a relationship charged with emotion, mystery, and ritualistic energy.

The editing is tightly rhythm-based, using fast cuts, overlays, and abrupt transitions to mirror the pulse of the music. Rich colour grading and layered visual effects contribute to the dreamlike atmosphere. These choices were made to emphasise the emotional shifts in the music and to create a visually immersive experience that enhances its tone and mood.

Getting On

Synopsis: Getting On is a reflective short film that explores the emotional aftermath of a breakup. Through the quiet moments of a solitary protagonist, the film delves into themes of loss, memory, and the slow process of moving forward after the end of a relationship.

The editing uses long, lingering takes and gentle pacing to capture the protagonist’s introspection and vulnerability. Minimal transitions and a restrained rhythm allow the emotional weight of silence and pause to resonate. These choices were intended to create an intimate atmosphere that reflects the lingering ache and tentative hope of a breakup.

Back-up

Synopsis: Backup is a surreal, comedic short film that explores the collapse of a creative process. As a film production spirals out of control, the narrative shifts into a fragmented fantasy exploring creative fragility, loss, and insanity. The editing embraces disorientation through abrupt jump cuts, time disruptions, and rhythmic pauses, creating a sense of instability that mirrors the film’s themes. Visual and temporal contrasts were used to fragment the narrative, emphasising uncertainty and pushing the viewer to question what is real, staged, or imagined.

Belle Vue

Synopsis: Archive Footage Film – Animal Rights is an experimental short that explores the evolving relationship between humans and animals. Using archival footage from the North West Film Archive, the film reflects on themes of empathy, exploitation, and social change.

The film uses montage, cross-cutting, and spliced archival clips to create a layered, reflective narrative. Footage from multiple NWFA sources was recontextualised to evoke emotional resonance and highlight shifts in societal attitudes. The editing aims to provoke thought through contrast and visual rhythm.
